SC twins graduate top of class, going to same college to study same major
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. (WYFF/WIS) - Eli and Zack Verdin have always been together.
The twins graduated from Travelers Rest High School with honors on Wednesday.
Both gave speeches because both were graduating at the top of their class.
“I just graduated salutatorian. It feels... I don’t know, it feels good but, I would’ve liked to be the valedictorian,” said Eli Verdin. “I’ll let my brother have that one.”
The brothers are celebrating nearly identical academic and athletic achievements.
“When we knew that we were one and two, the final stretch it was like who’s gonna be valedictorian, who’s going to be salutatorian,” said Zack Verdin. “We were fighting for that. And for tennis, we had a match this year to determine who is going to be one and who’s gonna be two. It was the same sort of thing. Luckily, it balanced out.”
The two are going to be roommates at Clemson University, where they both plan to study biology.
“We never thought we’d be sitting here today. Definitely 18 years ago, not to give you too much information, but they are premature for several weeks and they were actually in the NICU for a while,” said the boys’ father, Chuck Verdin. “So it’s just a blessing to be here.”
