Socastee wins 2021 Coastal Invitational Tournament

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (WMBF) - The Socastee High School baseball team is taking home some hardware.

The Braves defeated North Myrtle Beach, 9-8, in the finals of the Coastal Invitational Tournament on Sunday in Pawleys Island.

Socastee also topped Myrtle Beach and Waccamaw on Friday before beating Cheraw on Saturday to advance to the final.

The Coastal Invitational field also featured St. James, Aynor and Lake City.

Socastee’s Caid Byrd was also named the tournament’s most valuable player.

He hit .444 for the weekend and had a .634 on-base percentage according to a tweet from tournament officials.

The Braves open region play Monday with a home tilt against Sumter.
