DHEC: S.C. registers nearly 500 new COVID-19 cases, 13 additional deaths announced

CDC recommends masks in public settings

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced Tuesday 496 new COVID-19 cases and 13 additional deaths.

This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Carolina since the start of the pandemic to 445,523 and deaths to 7,606, officials said.

In Horry County, there were 54 new COVID-19 cases and two additional deaths. In Florence County, 16 new virus cases were reported and no additional deaths.

According to DHEC, 14,821 new individual test results were reported statewide, with a percent positive of 4.6%.

Of the state’s 11,261 inpatient hospital beds, 8,437 are in use for a 74.92% utilization rate, according to DHEC. Approximately 706 are COVID-19 patients, of which 190 are in ICU and 86 are ventilated.
