SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second-straight week, the Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse team swept the Southern Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week awards, as Samantha Courtemanche was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Claire Martell was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Courtemanche tallied eight points on three goals and five assists in the Chanticleers’ 15-7 home win over Kennesaw State on Saturday, Feb. 27. All three of her goals and five assists came in the second half as Coastal overcame a 4-3 halftime deficit and outscored the Owls 12-3 in the second half.
Martell moved to 3-0 on the season with the Chants’ win over Kennesaw State, as the sophomore goalkeeper tallied 11 saves in the 15-7 home win. Playing the full 60 minutes in goal, Martell posted a .524 save percentage and allowed just seven goals.
The conference award marks the second for Courtemanche this year and is the first in the career for Martell.
The Chants are off to a 3-0 start to the 2021 season, their best start since going 3-0 in 2017. CCU will play its first SoCon match at Wofford on Friday, March 5, at 3 p.m. ET.
