SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WYFF) - An Upstate firefighter was killed in a crash Wednesday on his way to work, according to the Spartanburg County coroner.

Warfield was on his way to work a shift at the Reidville Fire Department when the crash happened.

He worked at the Reidville Fire Department part-time and was a full-time firefighter with Clear Spring Fire Rescue.

While at Reidville, Warfield worked at a joint station shared between Reidville Fire Department and Poplar Springs Fire Service Area.

“Please keep the family of this brave firefighter and emergency rescue servant in your thoughts and prayers during their time of loss and grief,” Coroner Rusty Clevenger said.

Trooper Joe Hovis, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, said the collision happened on Silver Lake Road, roughly 1 mile east of Reidville.

Warfield was on a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle traveling north on Silver Lake Road, and a woman driving a 2003 Ford pickup truck was traveling south on Silver Lake Road, according to Hovis.

Hovis said the pickup truck turned east on Dillard Road and was struck by the motorcycle.
