DHEC: S.C. registers 779 new COVID-19 cases, 8 additional deaths announced

CDC recommends masks in public settings

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced Monday 779 new COVID-19 cases and eight additional deaths.

This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Carolina since the start of the pandemic to 437,018 and deaths to 7,417, officials said.

In Horry County, there were 50 new COVID-19 cases and one additional death. In Florence County, 15 new virus cases were reported and no additional deaths.

According to DHEC, 23,892 new individual test results were reported statewide, with a percent positive of 4.6%.



Of the state’s 11,273 inpatient hospital beds, 8,645 are in use for a 76.69% utilization rate, according to DHEC. Approximately 993 are COVID-19 patients, of which 231 are in ICU and 135 are ventilated.
