Police: Armed robbery suspect beats victim with gun, throws him in car trunk

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – A man managed to escape from the trunk of his own vehicle after an armed robbery suspect beat him with a gun and stole his cell phone, according to police.

Early Wednesday morning, authorities were called to the Galivants Ferry area for a kidnapping call, a report from Horry County police stated.

The victim told police he met the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Kaene Bellamy, at a home on Watts Road in the Loris area after the two started talking on Snapchat, the report confirmed.

According to police, the victim told authorities they were driving down the road when Bellamy said he left something at the residence.

After quickly going back inside the home, Bellamy reportedly returned to the vehicle and pulled a gun on the victim, demanding he get out.

Arrest warrants state Bellamy robbed the victim’s cell phone and beat him with the gun. He then allegedly fired the gun and forced the victim into the trunk of his car before driving away.

The victim was able to escape from the trunk when the car slowed down, according to the warrants.

Police said the victim was evaluated by EMS for a small cut to the back of the head.

Authorities later located Bellamy at the home on Watts Road. According to police, he ran from the home and was taken into custody after a short foot chase.

Bellamy is charged with armed robbery, assault of a high and aggravated nature, resisting arrest, kidnapping and carjacking.

He is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
