ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – The town of Atlantic Beach honored one of its lifelong residents whose life was taken too soon.

Horry County police LCpl. Melton “Fox” Gore was hit and killed on Jan. 12 while he was picking up debris along Highway 22, according to authorities.

During a town council meeting on Monday night, councilmembers read a proclamation honoring Gore and his contributions.

The proclamation stated that Gore was a strong community advocate and was very passionate about the town of Atlantic Beach. He served as a chairman of the Atlantic Beach Bikefest Committee for many years.

He also lived to serve those in his community.

“Gore’s true passion was serving the people as he would cook and feed thousands throughout Horry County each year,” the proclamation stated.

It also proclaims that the town of Atlantic Beach will recognize Jan. 12 as Gore’s day with an annual celebration in his honor.

The town council unanimously voted in favor of issuing the proclamation.
