CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina beach volleyball received votes in the 2021 AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball preseason poll, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced on Wednesday.

Last season, the Chanticleers were off to a 10-2 start to the 2020 spring season before the coronavirus pandemic abruptly canceled the season in mid-March.

The Chants went 4-0 to win the UAB Tournament in late February and then went 3-1 at the CofC Beach Bash with the program’s first-ever win over the College of Charleston Cougars.

Coastal head coach Steve Loeswick returns eight Chants from last year’s team, including Irena Drobnjak who led the team with an 11-1 record last season. Also returning this season are Lucy Campbell, Martine Kragholm, and Sarlota Svobodova who all registered 10 wins each a year ago.

Other returners include senior Kalin Eske, by far the most experienced Chant on the roster, sophomore Ashton Dunnigan, as well as second-year players Carli Ginther and Madison Allred who each played in nine matches or more as freshmen last year.

The 2021 roster also includes six newcomers in freshmen Emma Gonzalez, Sarah Riedell, Elena Sanchez, Riley Melton, and Ellie Hanford, as well as graduate transfer Kendra Lukacs.
