LYNCHBURG, Va. – Coastal Carolina’s Anais Williams and Emma Pearsall both opened up competition for the Chanticleers on day one of the Liberty Elite Invitational on Thursday in Lynchburg, Va.

The freshmen tandem competed in five events, half of the women’s indoor pentathlon, on Thursday. Williams ended the day in 11th overall in the multi-event with 2700 points and two spots in front of Pearsall in 13th with 2553 points.

Highlighting the day for Williams was a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 9.25 and a seventh-place showing in the women’s long jump with a mark of 4.91 meters.

Pearsall cleared the bar at 1.50 meters in the women’s high jump, matching her season-best, to finish in eighth-place overall, and turned in an 11th-place finish in the 800-meters with a time of 2:48.36.

Day two of the three-day event will begin tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. ET.
