Former Myrtle Beach mayor John Rhodes died on Saturday after his battle with COVID-19.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WMBF) – South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham is one of the many people remembering the late John Rhodes.

The former Myrtle Beach mayor died on Saturday after his battle with COVID-19.

People across the Grand Strand community, along with many leaders, have offered their condolences on his passing.

Graham tweeted on Monday night, “I’m very sorry to hear of the passing of former Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes. My prayers are with his family and friends. He was a great friend who was always there for his constituents. He dedicated so much of his life to his beloved Myrtle Beach. Rest In Peace, my friend.”

Rhodes is being remembered as someone who gave so much of his life to the Myrtle Beach community.

During his tenure in office, Rhodes and the Myrtle Beach City Council were responsible for several projects in the city, including the development of The Market Common and Savannah’s Playground. His time as mayor also saw revitalization to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.
