MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – A member of the U.S. Army National Guard and a retired police officer is seeking to be the next mayor of Myrtle Beach.

Tammie Durant announced her candidacy last week. She said what the community needs are “knowledgeable, capable, experienced advocates for family and small business,” according to a press release.

“The world is becoming a scary place. Our city doesn’t have to be one. Help me put people over politics. Your vote is your voice,” Durant said.

Durant joins fellow challenger Gene Ho in announcing their intention to take on incumbent Brenda Bethune in the November 2021 election for Myrtle Beach mayor.

Bethune was first elected in 2017.
