Suspect charged in connection with deadly hit-and-run in Florence County

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – Authorities have taken a suspect into custody in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash last weekend in Florence County.

According to information from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, 28-year-old Fernando Henrique Gamez, of Coward, has been charged with hit and run resulting in death.

Gamez is being held at the Florence County Detention Center. He is scheduled to have a bond hearing Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, authorities said.

The collision happened around 10 p.m. Jan. 8 in the area of Highway 52 and Lee Flowers Road near Lake City.

According to the SCHP, an unknown vehicle was traveling south on Highway 52 and struck a pedestrian before leaving the scene.

The pedestrian was killed as a result of the collision. Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken later identified the victim as 26-year-old Allen Dickson, Jr., of Olanta.
