COLUMBIA S.C. (WCSC) - Gunner Stockton, a 5-star recruit and the top ranked dual threat quarterback in the Class of 2022, decommitted from South Carolina on Tuesday afternoon.

“After much discussion and prayer with my family, I have decided to decommit from the University of South Carolina,” Stockton wrote in a statement on social media. “Back in August, I made the decision to commit to the University, program and staff. A lot has changed since that time and I feel that I should reevaluate my situation. I want to thank Connor Shaw for all of his love, support and understanding.”

Stockton originally committed to the Gamecocks back in August. He had strong relationships with both Shaw, who’s older brother Jaybo is his coach in high school, and former offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.

Auburn, where Bobo took the offensive coordinator job last week, is one of 20 other schools that offered Stockton a scholarship before he committed to South Carolina.

Stockton has put up crazy numbers in his 3 seasons in high school. He’s throwing for over 9,500 yards and 122 touchdowns while rushing for 3,400 yards and another 62 scores. In his junior season he threw for 3,128 yards with 45 touchdowns and 4 interceptions and rushed for 1,581 yards with 26 touchdowns.
