MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel will undergo a “makeover” ahead of its 10th anniversary.
According to a press release, the work will begin on Thursday, Jan. 14. The SkyWheel will be partially dismantled for a short time to make the improvements, which include a state-of-the-art lighting system, staff members said.
The SkyWheel will operate at normal hours until Jan. 13. After that, maintenance crews will begin removing gondolas in anticipation of the overhaul, the release stated.
According to SkyWheel staff, the wheel structure and both the interiors and exteriors of the gondolas will refurbished and refreshed. The light system will allow for more “dynamic light shows,” the release stated.
The official reopening date will be announced in early spring as the SkyWheel’s 10th birthday celebration plans take shape.
