Suspect in custody after deadly shooting in Lumberton area

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WMBF) – A man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to a deadly shooting Sunday afternoon in the Lumberton area, deputies said.

Authorities were called to the 1000 block of Shannon Road around 3:45 p.m. after a gunshot victim was found lying on the side of the road, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Justin Wilkins, 22, of Lumberton, was found dead upon arrival.

According to the RCSO, a citizen reported seeing a man running toward a wooded area near the shooting.

The suspect, identified as Jacy Bell, 20, of Lumberton, was taken into custody and placed in the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
