Group to protest outside U.S. Rep. Wilson’s Columbia office

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WMBF) – A protest is set to take place Monday outside of the Columbia office of U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson.

According to a press release, the “Rally for Democracy” will begin at 12 p.m., where citizens will stand in “peaceful opposition to the insurrection and riot in Washington, DC, in support of the prompt impeachment” of President Donald Trump, and in objection to Wilson’s vote on Jan. 6 to oppose the certification of the Electoral College votes declaring Joe Biden the winner of the presidential election.

In December, Wilson announced he would object to the certification of Biden’s win, saying there was an “open invitation for fraud” during the 2020 Presidential Election.

Monday’s protest comes days after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol during the joint Congressional session to certify Biden’s victory.

Five people died following the riot, including a Capitol police officer.
