HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – Two people have been charged after dozens of neglected animals were found at a property along Highway 90 near Conway, according to authorities.

Horry County police announced Friday Jason Schulze, 41, of Myrtle Beach, and Kayla Schulze, 22, have been arrested in connection to the case.

Both face 18 felony charges and 53 magistrate charges for ill treatment of animals, police said.

Police were called to the property Wednesday for what they initially called an ‘animal-related investigation.’

Authorities say they seized a number of animals, including horses, exotic birds, reptiles and guineafowl.

In total, 53 neglected animals were found in the suspects’ custody, along with the remains of others, according to police.

Both suspects are currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Dentation Center.
