FLORENCE, S.C. (WMBF) – All in-person proceedings in Florence Municipal Court have been suspended until further notice, city officials announced Friday.
According to a press release, beginning with court scheduled at 9 a.m. on Jan. 11, the municipal court will not hold morning or afternoon court, or jury trials until further notice. It is under the direction of the South Carolina Supreme Court.
“Defendants with scheduled court appearances will be notified by mail of your rescheduled court date,” the release stated.
City officials said the measure is an effort to contain and mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
As of Thursday, Florence County has seen 10,887 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 264 deaths, according to information from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
