COLUMBIA, S.C. (WMBF) - A top South Carolina assistant is now trading Columbia for a spot on the Plains.
Auburn announced Thursday that it has hired Gamecocks’ offensive coordinator Mike Bobo for the same position with the Tigers. Bobo will join new Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin’s staff.
He was initially going to be retained by new South Carolina coach Shane Beamer as part of his incoming staff.
Bobo spent just one season with the Gamecocks as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He also served as interim head coach after the program fired former head coach Will Muschamp in November after nearly five seasons.
Bobo was previously the head coach at Colorado State before coming to Columbia, and also spent more than a decade at Georgia as part of Mark Richt’s staff from 2001-2014.
Auburn later hired former Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason as its defensive coordinator on Thursday.
