COLUMBIA, S.C. (WMBF) – South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster has ordered that flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff on Friday in tribute to North Myrtle Beach Sgt. Gordon Best.
According to information from the governor’s office, the flags will remain at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Jan. 8.
“Governor McMaster requests that flags over buildings of the political subdivisions of this State similarly be flown at half-staff for this purpose,” a tweet from the governor’s press office stated.
Best, 30, was killed in a New Year’s Day crash while responding to a call.
On Friday, the funeral service for Best is also taking place at the Alabama Theatre.
