GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – Georgetown County students and teachers will have to continue learning from home for an extra week.

Hybrid instruction was set to resume on Jan. 11 after the holiday break.

But Georgetown County’s high COVID-19 case rate and staffing issues forced school leaders to make the decision to push back remote learning another week.

“A major factor in this decision to continue in remote is due to challenges with adequate staffing for employees who have tested positive or have been placed in quarantine since returning from Winter Break,” the school district posted.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the school district will resume hybrid instruction on Tuesday, Jan. 19 after the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

The school district added that all winter sports competitions and spring sports conditioning have also been suspended until Jan. 19.
