HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – The Horry County Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own.

“It is with sad hearts that we must announce the passing of retired HCPD Bloodhound Shelley, who crossed over the rainbow bridge Monday morning at 11.5 years old,” a post on the department’s Facebook page stated, which began with the words “Bloodhouse Shelley: Forever In Our Hearts,” followed by a blue heart.

Shelley served with the HCPD for nine years, from 2011 to 2020, according to the department. During that time, she ran more than 170 calls for service and had a combined success rate of close to 90%, officials said.

“She caught bad guys, found lost children, tracked missing dementia patients, visited schools, attended community events, and brought joy and hope to all she encountered,” the HCPD post stated.
