Coroner identifies victim killed following shooting on U.S. 17 near Myrtle Beach Manor

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – Police are investigating a shooting that happened early Saturday morning in the Myrtle Beach area.

According to information from the Horry County Police Department, the shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. on U.S. 17 near Myrtle Beach Manor.

Police said one person was killed and two others were injured.

According to the HCPD, a related car crash occurred during the shooting. Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler said 28-year-old Peter E. Franco, of Myrtle Beach, died in that crash at Myrtle Beach Manor.

Franco, who was involved in the crash and the shooting, died at the scene, Fowler said. He added that it’s unclear if the death was from a gunshot or injuries sustained in the crash.

An autopsy is scheduled to take place at the Medical University of South Carolina to determine the exact cause of death, according to Fowler.
