Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle in Marlboro County

MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday morning in Marlboro County, officials said.

The crash happened around 4:40 a.m. on U.S. Highway 15 near Shuford Street, according to Master Trooper David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was walking northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 15 and was struck by a 2008 Toyota Scion traveling south, Jones said.

The driver of the vehicle was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, according to troopers.

The name of the pedestrian was not immediately available.

SCHP is investigating the crash.
