Police: Man who barricaded himself for hours identified, charged

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A man Myrtle Beach Police said barricaded himself for several hours in a Myrtle Beach residence on Saturday is accused of rape.

A police report states 42-year-old Joseph Kenneth Williamson was wanted for sex charges, and was spotted by an officer Saturday morning at Withers Swash Park.

According to Cpl. Tom Vest, officers responded shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday to serve an arrest warrant for Williamson on the 300 block of Withers Swash Drive.

Vest said Williamson barricaded himself and refused to come out for several hours, and officers eventually entered the home and took him into custody early Sunday morning.

Online records show Williamson is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and threatening the life of a person or family of a public employee.

He was denied bond during a hearing on Sunday. Williamson is due back in court on Aug. 12.
