DILLON COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – Authorities are investigating a “deadly situation” at a mobile home park in Dillon County, officials said.
Deputies were called to the Pine Village mobile home park on Highway 301 North Tuesday morning.
“The incident is a deadly situation and a very active investigation,” said Capt. Cliff Arnette with the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
The State Law Enforcement Division, Dillon police, Latta police, the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Dillon County Coroner’s Office are assisting, Arnette added.
Several neighbors said they heard yelling and fighting followed by gunfire around midnight. The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 1 a.m.
One neighbor said shortly after police arrived, he saw a victim being carried away from the scene.
Lonnie Parker arrived around 10 a.m. to take pictures of his daughter’s car which had multiple bullet holes in the exterior.
Parker said his daughter’s fiance was a victim and is fighting for his life at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
“It’s serious and it’s a sad thing,” said Parker. “It’s not guns that kill people, it’s stupid people with the guns, and here it is. He’s got a daughter that’s seven and a two-month-old baby. It’s sad, I’m trying to keep it from them. It’s so hard to explain. Words can’t explain it.”
Pine Village resident, Dan Green, said he hid in his home after the first shot was fired and quickly called the police.
Green called the situation tragic.
“This is pure madness. No argument, no anything is worth human lives being extinguished. There is no rhyme or reason. There is no why,” said Green.
The investigation is still active.
