CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The 71-year-old man with dementia who went missing from his Charlotte hotel room has been found.

Willie Gillespie Jr., 71, was reunited with his family Sunday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

Gillespie was said to suffer from cognitive issues. He had reportedly left his room at the Double Tree Inn on the 800 block of West Trade Street around 8:30 p.m. Friday, and hadn’t been seen.

Gillespie has early onset dementia and family feared he may be confused or disoriented.

He wasn’t familiar with the Charlotte area.
