NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – Those looking for something cool and creamy to satisfy that sweet tooth now have another option.
Ella’s Ice Cream recently opened its doors in North Myrtle Beach and is owned by Roger and Heather Carbaugh.
This was a dream 12-years in the making, now, Monday through Saturday, their seven children can be seen working behind the counter at the family business.
The menu features premium soft-serve ice cream, floats, sundaes, and shakes.
But the journey to opening the store wasn’t always so sweet.
“Ella was our daughter, we lost Ella in a house fire at our home in Hartsville in 2014,” Roger said.
So when it came to naming the store of their dreams, it wasn’t too difficult of a choice.
“Ella absolutely loved ice cream so the thought of having an ice cream shop was perfect. She also loved purple so now we have a purple ice cream shop," Heather said.
Over the last five years, each day that passes has its own challenges after Ella died.
“Especially when you lose a young child, to not having that child involved in so many of your family memories can be a challenge and this is bringing Ella into so many of our family memories,” Roger said.
They’re turning a tragic loss into something sweet, serving ice cream with a purpose.
“Having the shop and being able to serve others and bring them a little joy... because no one comes to an ice cream shop upset. They all come happy because they’re getting ice cream,” said Heather.
The hope is everyone will leave with more than just ice cream from the shop.
“Just a special little sweet treat.. just a little joy in someone’s day. The more we can spread that... it makes us happy,” said Heather.
Ella’s Ice Cream is located in the Coastal North Town Center, 1516 U.S. 17 North, Unit 6, in North Myrtle Beach.
