Columbus County man becomes first Hurricane Dorian-related death in NC, according to Gov. Cooper

COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - A Columbus County man has become the first Hurricane Dorian-related death in North Carolina according to Governor Roy Cooper.

Gov. Cooper said in a press briefing this morning that the 85-year-old man died after falling off a ladder.

According to the News Reporter, Lewis Clifton Burchette was securing and repairing the roof at his home along Sam Potts Road when he fell on Monday. A rescue squad took him to the hospital where he later died.
