HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – The Horry County Government and Justice Center was evacuated after a threat was made to the complex Monday, according to first responders.
An employee with the Horry County Clerk of Court’s Office in the Horry County Government and Justice Center received a phone call with an apparent threat where the caller stated that an employee was, “planning on setting off a bomb there today,” according to a police report.
The employee contacted the Horry County Sheriff’s Office and an investigation was initiated. Both buildings within the Horry County Government and Justice Center were evacuated.
Conway city spokesperson Taylor Newell said a bomb-sniffing dog was brought in to go through the entire building.
“We will do a full sweep of the building. The first process is obviously getting everyone out safely, and we did that. And the building was fully evacuated. Everyone ... was sent home. So now we are in the process of doing that full sweep,” Newell said before 4 p.m. Monday.
By 5:15 p.m. Monday, Horry County spokesperson Kelly Moore said the building was completely cleared.
A criminal investigation into the investigation is ongoing.
