MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The mother accused of leaving her 5-year-old child with a landscaper appeared in court for a bond hearing Saturday morning.

Samantha Shaver, 28, is charged with unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person by legal custodian and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Conway Municipal Judge Andy Hendrick set a $20,000 bond for the neglect charge, while $5,000 bond was set for the possession of a stolen vehicle charge by Horry County Magistrate Judge Aaron C. Butler.

According to a Conway Police Department report, a city officer went to a home in the 1900 block of Kenneth Street Thursday evening and spoke with someone who was hired to do landscaping on the property. That person said a man and a woman, who police identified as Shaver, came to the home with the small boy.

The landscaper told police the couple said they were “going somewhere where he (child) could not come with them,” the report stated.

According to the landscaper, the couple left the child and then walked away.

Shaver’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 4 at 1 p.m.
