Manhunt underway after man fires shots at officers in Lake City, officials say

LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) – A manhunt is underway in Lake City after authorities said a man fired at Lake City police officers.

Lake City police and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office were called Tuesday night to the area of Ron McNair Boulevard, where Lake City police Sgt. Amy Pringle confirmed that a man shot at officers.

Lake City Police Chief Kipp Coker said the Florence County Sheriff’s Office called on the police department to interview a suspect they were looking for.

Coker said Gavin Less Nowlin fired about four shots at two officers. The officers did not return fire and none of them were hit.

The police chief said that officers called for backup and Nowlin ran off.

Authorities are now searching for Nowlin in the area.

Anyone with information on Nowlin’s whereabouts is asked to call either the Florence County Sheriff’s Office at 843-665-2121 or call the Lake City Police Department at 843-374-5411.
