MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A Myrtle Beach man was taken into custody Tuesday for failing to report nearly $900,000 as taxable income, according to authorities.
A press release from the South Carolina Department of Revenue states 35-year-old Christopher Joseph Greenwell was charged with two counts of attempting to evade a tax.
In 2014 and 2015, Greenwell received nearly $900,000 in gross income but failed to file individual income tax returns, arrest warrants stated.
By doing so, the suspect was not assessed more than $17,000 in South Carolina state tax, according to the release. Greenwell also allegedly made misleading and false statements to agents during the course of the investigation.
Greenwell is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention pending a bond hearing, the release stated.
