Student Spotlight: Art major believes all have the ability to create beautiful works

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A senior advanced art major from the Academy for Arts, Science and Technology had a very impressive art project that won her first place at the Lake City Art Fields competition.

Along with the skills, Glenn Courtney also believes everyone has the ability to do art. As for her, she also has passion and technique

Her dad is a wood worker, which helped ignite her love for it. What started out as making bird houses has evolved into years of hand-carving beautiful artwork, from longboards, bonfire restaurant table tops, and self-portraits.

As for her winning Lake City entry, hers was chosen as best of the best out of 200 submissions in her division. While advanced art is Courtney's major at the Academy, she's an honors student and is very

"I am a part of the tree huggers group here, which is a recycling club. I'm basically in all the honor society's so beta club, national honors,” she said. “I'm super involved in pretty much every aspect.”

Staying in tune with her hands on talent but following in a different path, Courtney is attending Clemson University in the fall to hopefully become a trauma or plastic surgeon one day.
