Horry County Sheriff's Office marks the six year anniversary of Deputy Tim Causey's death

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The Horry County Sheriff’s Office honored one of their own on Sunday, as they marked a somber anniversary.

It was six years ago that Deputy Tim Causey passed away. A memorial service was held Sunday at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols.

“He was a great husband, father, son, brother and deputy. He had an infectious smile, was a practical joker and he loved his community and helping people,” the Horry County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on its Facebook page.

He died on May 19, 2013, more than two months after being one of the first to respond to the destructive Windsor Green condo complex fire that destroyed or damaged 26 buildings and left dozens homeless.

Causey was hospitalized days after the fire for smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide exposure. He ultimately succumbed to complications from both while at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Causey worked in law enforcement for more than 25 years, including stints with both the HCSO and the Horry County Police Department.
