HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - An investigation continues into several shots fired at an apartment complex in Horry County.
Police said a number of buildings and cars were hit at Fountain Pointe Apartments in the Forestbrook area Tuesday night.
Residents say it was a moment of panic as the sound of gunfire erupted.
“He dove onto the floor, crawled to the bathroom like a normal person would for a situation like that. So he dove to the floor, crawled to the bathroom and took cover,” said Kazario Bishop.
Bishop lives inside one of several buildings authorities say were riddled with bullets. He said although his roommate was scared, he didn’t imagine it could be gunfire.
“I heard around eight to nine, 10 gunshots. For me personally, I thought it was fireworks," said Bishop.
That is until, he said, police arrived roughly 30 minutes later.
“Cops came to the door asking a couple of questions saying it was definitely gunshots. Did a quick loop around the apartment to see if there was any gunshots," said Bishop.
The bullets also damaged cars. At least two remain in the parking lot with shattered windows and glass shards scattered about. Many who live in the apartment complex said they’re stunned seeing something like this happen.
“I was in utter shock. Shock and disbelief. I just couldn’t believe this happened here,” said Patrice Landrum.
Neighbors said they typically don’t see violence or crime in the complex they call home. While many say they’ve always felt safe there, some are left with an uneasy feeling.
“Not so sure anymore but, you know, it’s like this everywhere, I guess," said Landrum.
Authorities say no one was hurt. Right now police are working to find who is responsible. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Horry County Police Department.
