Report: Man wields machete, hatchet during assault in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Police say a man wielded a machete and hatchet during a fight over the weekend in Myrtle Beach.

Brian Brubaker, 52, is charged with two counts of second-degree assault and battery and public intoxication.

Just after midnight Saturday, officers responded to the 700 block of Flagg Street for a reported fight in which one person was stabbed in the arm, according to a police report.

Brubaker, who police say was highly intoxicated, was detained. One of the victims had a small cut on his finger, the report states.

A victim said Brubaker accused him of stealing a knife. According to the report, Brubaker then approached him wielding both a machete and hatchet. Police say a person tried to intervene and was cut in the finger.

A witness said she saw Brubaker swinging the machete over his head while approaching one of the victims, the report states.

Brubaker is currently being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail.
