HCPD: Impaired driver hits Horry County police patrol vehicle, hurts K-9
Authorities say an impaired driver crashed into a Horry County police patrol vehicle

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Authorities say an impaired driver crashed into a Horry County police patrol vehicle while officers were assisting a tow truck driver on the side of the road in the Conway area.

On Sunday morning, K-9 Handler Rabon, Constable Rabon and Sergeant Buckingham were near Highway 701 and Highway 22, speaking with a tow truck drive following an arrest, when Constable Rabon saw a vehicle coming toward them.

They all jumped over a guardrail and took cover as the oncoming vehicle hit the tow truck, followed by the patrol vehicle, according to authorities.

None of them were hurt.

K-9 Handler Rabon ran to his patrol vehicle and checked on K-9 Ori who was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. K-9 Ori was taken to an animal hospital where he was treated for an abrasion and was released by medical staff.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested 42-year-old Celestino Luria in connection with the incident. He faces several charges including driving under the influence and violation of emergency safety scene management law.
