HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Authorities say an impaired driver crashed into a Horry County police patrol vehicle while officers were assisting a tow truck driver on the side of the road in the Conway area.
On Sunday morning, K-9 Handler Rabon, Constable Rabon and Sergeant Buckingham were near Highway 701 and Highway 22, speaking with a tow truck drive following an arrest, when Constable Rabon saw a vehicle coming toward them.
They all jumped over a guardrail and took cover as the oncoming vehicle hit the tow truck, followed by the patrol vehicle, according to authorities.
None of them were hurt.
K-9 Handler Rabon ran to his patrol vehicle and checked on K-9 Ori who was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. K-9 Ori was taken to an animal hospital where he was treated for an abrasion and was released by medical staff.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested 42-year-old Celestino Luria in connection with the incident. He faces several charges including driving under the influence and violation of emergency safety scene management law.
