Pee Dee arena football team to honor ‘Florence 7’ at upcoming game

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A Pee Dee arena football team will pay tribute to the seven Florence County officers who were ambushed while serving a warrant last October.

According to information from officials with the Carolina Havoc, the Salute the Heroes: Honoring Florence 7 will take place at the May 18 game at the Florence Center, located at 3300 W. Radio Drive in Florence.

The pregame ceremony will start at 6:20 p.m., where the victims of the Vintage Place shooting will be introduced. It will be followed by a moment of silence.

Florence Police Sgt. Terrence Carraway died in that Oct. 3, 2018 shooting. Weeks later, Florence County Sheriff’s Inv. Farrah Turner succumbed to her wounds. Five other law enforcement officials were wounded.

The suspect, Fred Hopkins, faces two counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder in connection with the shooting.
