MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The man who deputies say was involved in a deadly shooting at a Marlboro County nightclub last weekend has been arrested.
Tajuwon Deondre Short, 18, of Rockingham, NC, was taken into custody Monday after turning himself in to authorities, according to a news release from the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office.
Short is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and unlawful carrying of a pistol.
In the early morning hours of May 4, deputies responded to the State Line Bar & Grill after receiving information that a North Carolina hospital was providing aid to a victim that was shot at the nightclub, the release states.
North Carolina Medical Examiner Leo Goodwin identified the victim as 22-year-old Kinnie Marquan Utley, 22, of Rockingham, NC.
“Sheriff Lemon advised that he has begun the legal steps necessary to close down the State Line Bar & Grill due to incidents that have occurred there as well as violations committed by the operators,” the release states.
Short has been arraigned on his charges and will receive a bond hearing from a circuit court judge.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Richmond County (NC) Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
