MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A Myrtle Beach Middle School teacher was arrested at the school Wednesday morning for public intoxication, according to district officials.
Lisa Bourcier, spokesperson for Horry County Schools, said Stacy Hetzel was charged with both public intoxication and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
A warrant shows that during a search related to the arrest, two round white pills with “R35” inscribed on one side were found in Hetzel’s purse.
Officers said they used a drug website to identify the pill as Clonazepam, a Schedule IV substance.
Hetzel said she no longer had a prescription for the drug, according to the arrest warrant.
Hetzel has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to Bourcier.
She added Hetzel is a reading intervention teacher at MBMS. She has been employed with the district since July 2008.
