NMB sexual assault suspect considered armed, dangerous, authorities say

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – North Myrtle Beach public safety officers are investigating a sexual assault outside of a hotel.

A 21-year-old woman told officers that around 9:50 p.m. Monday, she was walking along South Ocean Boulevard in front of the Wyndham when a man wearing a ski mask grabbed her, pulled her into the alley, put a gun to her head and made her perform oral sex.

The woman said she was unable to see the suspect’s face because he had on a ski mask but said he was black, in his late 20s, was a medium height and heavy set.

She said another man walked by and that’s when the suspect grabbed the victim’s phone, threw it and then he ran toward Ocean Boulevard.

Many college students from Duke University and the University of Richmond are visiting North Myrtle Beach this week from out of state to celebrate the start of summer vacation. Lots of them are on edge after hearing about the assault.

“That’s pretty scary,” University of Richmond student Mason Ryan said. "That’s scary stuff to hear about.”

Students said they received notifications about the assault Monday night.

“It’s really disheartening, honestly, because I’ve walked from my friend’s house just a few miles away, and that could’ve been any single person out here, and the fact that he pulled a gun on her is really upsetting," University of Richmond student Jane Davidson said.

North Myrtle Beach spokesperson Pat Dowling released a surveillance picture of the man that officers are searching for in the incident. Dowling said he may be in the Main Street area.

He said the suspect is considered armed and dangerous and people should not approach him.

Anyone who knows him and sees him is asked to call North Myrtle Beach Public Safety at 843-280-5511
