LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) – A charter boat group got quite the show as they headed back from a day of fishing off the South Carolina Coast.
Fine Catch Fishing Charters boat captain Chris Ossmann said this week he took a charter group about 10 miles offshore to do some king mackerel fishing. They were heading back when they saw a few fins popping out of the water.
Ossmann and the group went to the front of the boat and all of a sudden, the dolphins were surrounding the boat.
“Coolest thing. You could almost reach down and touch them as close as they were,” Ossmann said.
He said there were at least 50 dolphins or more. He said the pod was almost playing around with the boat and talking to the guests. Ossmann said they were jumping out of the water and almost doing flips.
“I’ve seen plenty of dolphin out there, especially they follow the shrimp boats and stuff like that. You may see pods of 20 maybe 15, but to have them out there and being that clean of water and have them come right up to the boat like that, and kind of play with you… something I haven’t seen before like that,” Ossmann said.
He said when you go out in the waters, you never know what you’re going to see. He said the guests were thrilled to see the dolphins.
