CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - We now know how long Coastal’s leash will be with its new head football coach.

In contracts obtained by WMBF News this week, Coastal Carolina University agreed to keep Jamey Chadwell installed as head coach through the end of the 2020-2021 football season.

Chadwell will make $350,000 in base salary beginning in 2019, peaking at $425,000 in the final year of the deal.

Chadwell’s salary of $425,000 in the 2021-2022 season eclipse’s that of his predecessor Joe Moglia, who stepped down in January 2019. Moglia’s last coaching contract paid $400,000 per year. He remains in the department, serving as chairman of athletics. That position pays $170,000 per year according to a contract obtained by WMBF News.

Chadwell’s deal is laced with incentives, with big rewards for on and off performance. Should Coastal win the Sun Belt Conference, Chadwell and his coaching staff will split a $300,000 bonus. The staff could also make money should the team excel in the classroom.

Coastal securing a bowl bid would net a $150,000 bonus with $200,000 coming for a bowl win. And if the Chants finish the year ranked in the top 25, that will mean a $400,000 bonus.

Should another school come calling for Coastal’s Commander in Chief, the contract stipulates a $150,000 buyout for early termination.
