HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – One man was taken into police custody after an officer reported finding an 87-year-old woman in deplorable conditions.

William Neville, 55, is charged with neglect of vulnerable adult.

Horry County police were called April 24 to Knoll Drive in Little River for a neglect complaint.

The caller stated that she was notified by hospice that Neville was not properly caring for the victim and leaving her home alone.

She also stated that hospice was discontinued because of Neville’s erratic behavior, according to the police report.

The officer went into the home and found the 87-year-old laying in a bed on a bare mattress and smelling of urine and feces and unable to move and was lethargic, the police report stated.

The officer also said there was no food in the refrigerator or freezer.

The 87-year-old victim was placed into emergency protective custody and taken to the hospital for further care.

Neville is out of jail on bond.
