MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) - Firefighting agencies from around the Grand Strand are coming together Saturday to mourn the loss of one of their own killed during an off-duty wreck.
The Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire Department shared the sad news on their Facebook page.
Robert Shubert was 31 years old. Schubert told the South Strand News in 2015 that he always dreamed of being a firefighter.
“As far back as I remember, I wanted to be a fireman and my first birthday party was at a firehouse,” Shubert said. The Carolina Forest resident began working with MIGC part-time in 2014 according to the Times.
Several other municipalities took to Facebook Saturday to pay their respects. According to a post from North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue, Shubert was killed in an off duty motorcycle accident.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and our MIGC family during this time of grieving,” the department writes in the somber post.
