MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – It was a happy day at the Myrtle Beach Fire Department when they learned that one of their own will be able to return to full duty.
Firefighter Jen Gilbert spent a year on light duty while being treated for breast cancer, according to the department’s Facebook post.
She has since been cleared by doctors to return to full duty.
The department said that Gilbert is an inspiration to all of them.
Back in December, Gilbert received a surprise when a woman named Monika Newman came by and donated money to help cover the cost for Gilbert’s cancer treatment. Newman and her friends raised the money at a Christmas party.
