1 killed after argument leads to gunfire inside home, deputies say

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – A man opened fire inside a home in Robeson County, killing another man, deputies said.

Deputies responded around 5:35 p.m. Wednesday to a home on Highway 74 W. just outside of Lumberton to a person shot.

Investigators said 29-year-old Anthony Carter was found inside with a gunshot wound. He died from the injuries he sustained.

Deputies arrested 23-year-old Eric Neil Hammonds. He is charged with second-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied building.

The shooting stemmed from an argument between Carter, Hammonds and other family members, according to investigators.

Hammonds is in the Robeson County Detention Center under a $500,000 bond.

The case is being investigated by the Robeson County Sheriff’s office Homicide and Criminal Investigations Divisions. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 910-671-3100.
