5th person charged in connection to Aynor dog fighting operation

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A fifth person is in custody, accused of being a part of a dog fighting operation involving more than a dozen dogs.

Jonathan Ray Babson, 41, of Nichols was arrested Monday morning. He faces presence at facility of animal fighting or baiting charge.

Police broke up the operation in March on Persimmons Road in the Aynor area.

Seventeen pit bulls and one mastiff were taken from the home and brought to the Horry County Animal Care Center, where they are still being held during the investigation.

Four other people were charged in the case. They face the following charges:

Erica Wilson: possession of cocaine, first offense; unlawful conduct towards a child; violation of animal fighting and baiting act

Tran Graham: unlawful conduct towards a child; violation of animal fighting and baiting act; cruelty towards animals, 15 counts; violation of Horry County ordinance 4-3(c) tethering section, 14 counts

Roy Dew: violation of animal fighting and baiting act

Kendrick Butler: violation of animal fighting and baiting act; cruelty towards animals, 15 counts; violation of Horry County ordinance 4-3(c) tethering section, 14 counts
